[00:00.00]Student:Hi, professor Johnson. So You've heard the good news about the literary magazine.
[00:10.42]Professor:I sure have. congratulations. [00:13.18]Didn't you and a few other students try to get something similar off the ground last year, but then you ran into some problems.
[00:19.43]Student:Yeah. We totally blew it last year. [00:21.39]We did a rush job on the proposal. We left out some important parts and the rest of the proposal was really vague. [00:28.05]Some people blame the Dean for not giving us more of a chance, but really the bottom line was that we didn't leave ourselves enough time to do it well. [00:36.03]But this time we learned our lesson and we were way ahead of the game and Dean Burger proved our proposal.
[00:42.18]Professor:I'm glad. I look forward to reading... What are you calling I.
[00:46.98]Student:In the proposal we call the chapter and verse, you know, because we plan to publish both poetry and prose.
[00:54.03]Professor:Chapter and verse. Very clever! I like it.
[00:57.32]Student:Me too. Some people wanted to call it The Buildings Review just name it after the college.
[01:02.55]Professor:Kind of boring if you ask me, especially with a new publication you wanna name that's gonna grab people's attention. [01:09.28]I mean you know that new bookstore in town I can't believe they called it Wall Bookstore
[01:14.42]Student:Yeah, exactly.
[01:15.88]Professor:So the magazine will be exclusively devoted to student work?
[01:19.00]Student:Yep, poetry, some fictional stories and some nonfiction essays.
[01:24.28]Professor:Sounds great. I like that diversity of content.
[01:26.97]Student:I'm really glad you say that because I actually came here to find out if you're interested in being our faculty advisor.
[01:33.25]Professor:you'd like me to be involved? [01:35.48]Thanks. Actually, it's something I've done in the past, been the faculty advisor to a student publication. [01:42.91]So I have some idea of the kind of time commitment required.
[01:47.07]Student:Oh,but we wouldn't expect you to be on all the needy gritty details, you know like reading submissions or attending every editorial meeting.
[01:54.80]Professor:But I would want to. See,that's the problem. It may seem silly, but I really don't want to be one of those people who's happy to just put their name on something. [02:04.08]Your group deserve someone who is ready to give 100%.
[02:07.43]Student:Ok, but what I mean is we won't make any special demands on your time and we’ll be very grateful for any time you decide to give us.
[02:15.41]Professor:I understand. The problem is me. What I'd expect of myself. Basically what's happening is that I'm working on a book and it's a particularly hectic time. [02:26.56]But you know what, I really respect your persistence. You were turned down last year, but you didn't let that stop you from trying again. Can you give me a week to think it through?
[02:37.23]Student:Sure.
[02:37.81]Professor:I'll let you know.
