Okay, this topic sounds pretty interesting. And it reminds me of a group discussion that I had with my classmates in an English Speaking class. Professor Jason, who is from UK, wanted us to study a case and each group should present their findings in English to the entire class. The case was like this, there is a girl who wishes to look thin and fair. In order to be thin, she becomes anorexic and experiences severe health problems. And the question we discussed was whose problem was this consequence.
As the speaker of my group, before I started to share, my teammates and I noticed that several groups had identical opinions. They said that it was her personal problem, and she was spoiling her life on her own. Then we thought we needed to present something fresh to stand out and impress others. So after several minutes’ warm discussion, we came to the conclusion that it's the obsession of society in general for the fair skin and thin body that has indirectly affected this girl. It is the media that represents society, portrays beautiful and desirable girls as thin and fair. Unsurprisingly, our share was very different from others, and we were so proud of that.
At last, our group was praised by our classmates and Professor Jason. And this discussion was truly interesting.
