[01:05.37]JEREMY:Hello, Helen.
[01:06.36]Sorry I’m late.
[01:07.37]HELEN:Hi, Jeremy, no problem.
[01:09.10]Well we'd better work out where we are on our project, I suppose.
[01:13.17]JEREMY:Yeah.
[01:13.98]I've looked at the drawings you've done for my story, 'The Forest', and I think they're brilliant - they really create the atmosphere I had in mind when I was writing it.
[01:22.76]HELEN:I'm glad you like them.
[01:24.20]JEREMY:There are just a few suggestions I'd like to make.
[01:27.59]HELEN:Go ahead.
[01:28.57]JEREMY:NOW, I'm not sure about the drawing of the cave - it's got trees all around it, which is great, but the drawing's a bit too static, isn't it?
[01:39.30]I think it needs some action.
[01:41.10]HELEN:Yes, there's nothing happening.
[01:43.18]Perhaps I should add the boy - Malcolm, isn't it?
[01:47.82]He would be walking up to it.
[01:49.70]JEREMY: Yes, let's have Malcolm in the drawing.
[01:52.58]And what about putting in a tiger - the one that he makes friends with a bit later?
[01:58.46]Maybe it could be sitting under a tree washing itself.
[02:02.92]HELEN:And the tiger stops in the middle of what it's doing when it sees Malcolm walking past.
[02:07.50]JEREMY:That's a good idea.
[02:08.63]HELEN:OK, I'll have a go at that.
[02:10.32]JEREMY:Then there's the drawing of the crowd of men and women dancing.
[02:14.36]They're just outside the forest, and there's a lot going on.
[02:18.20]HELEN:That's right, you wanted them to be watching a carnival procession, but I thought it would be too crowded.
[02:24.39]Do you think it works like this?
[02:26.33]JEREMY:Yes, I like what you've done.
[02:29.34]The only thing is, could you add Malcolm to it, without changing what's already there.
[02:35.18]HELEN:What about having him sitting on the tree trunk on the right of the picture?
[02:40.48]JEREMY:Yes, that would be fine.
[02:43.10]HELEN:And do you want him watching the other people?
[02:45.41]JEREMY:No, he's been left out of all the fun, so I'd like him to be crying - that'll contrast nicely with the next picture, where he's laughing at the clowns in the carnival.
[02:55.62]HELEN:Right, I'll do that.
[02:57.30]JEREMY:And then the drawing of the people ice skating in the forest.
[03:01.25]HELEN:I wasn't too happy with that one.
[03:03.24] Because they're supposed to be skating on grass, aren't they?
[03:06.80]JEREMY:That's right, and it's frozen over.
[03:08.88]At the moment it doesn't look quite right.
[03:12.56]HELEN:Mm, I see what you mean.
[03:14.50]I'll have another go at that.
[03:16.46]JEREMY:And I like the wool hats they're wearing.
[03:19.34] Maybe you could give each of them a scarf, as well.
[03:22.20]HELEN:Yeah, that's easy enough.
[03:23.85]They can be streaming out behind the people to suggest they're skating really fast.
[03:28.00]JEREMY:Mm, great.
[03:29.50]Well that's all on the drawings.
[03:31.98]HELEN:Right.
[03:32.78]So you've finished writing your story and I just need to finish illustrating it, and my story and your drawings are done.
[04:20.41]HELEN:So the next thing is to decide what exactly we need to write about in the report that goes with the stories, and how we're going to divide the work.
[04:29.90]JEREMY:Right, Helen.
[04:30.91]HELEN:What do you think about including a section on how we planned the project as a whole, Jeremy?
[04:36.33]That's probably quite important.
[04:38.32]JEREMY:Yeah.
[04:39.10]Well, you've had most of the good ideas so far.
[04:42.46]How do you feel about drafting something, then we can go through it together and discuss it?
[04:48.02]HELEN:OK, that seems reasonable.
[04:49.98]And I could include something on how we came up with the ideas for our two stories, couldn't I?
[04:54.99]JEREMY: Well I've started writing something about that, so why don't you do the same and we can include the two things.
[05:02.19]HELEN:Right.
[05:02.90]So what about our interpretation of the stories?
[05:06.30]Do we need to write about what we think they show, like the value of helping other people, all that sort of thing?
[05:12.35]JEREMY: That's going to come up later, isn't it?
[05:15.30]I think everyone in the class is going to read each other's stories and come up with their own interpretations, which we're going to discuss.
[05:24.58]HELEN:Oh, I missed that.
[05:26.10]So it isn't going to be part of the report at all?
[05:29.30]JEREMY:No.
[05:29.84]But we need to write about the illustrations, because they're an essential element of children's experience of reading the stories.
[05:37.68]It's probably easiest for you to write that section, as you know more about drawing than I do.
[05:43.92]HELEN:Maybe, but I find it quite hard to write about.
[05:47.40] I'd be happier if you did it.
[05:49.34]JEREMY:OK.
[05:50.53]So when do you think ...
