[00:51.06]KAEDEN: Hello Charlotte. I’m Kaeden, one of the supervisors.
[00:55.74]Welcome to the team.
[00:57.06]CHARLOTTE: Hi Aiden.
[00:58.48]KAEDEN: It's Kaeden.
[00:59.86]CHARLOTTE: I'm so sorry.
[01:01.32]KAEDEN: Don't worry. People often get my name wrong;
[01:03.97]they never know how to spell it.
[01:06.34]It's K-A-E-D-E-N, in case you ever need to write it.
[01:13.06]CHARLOTTE: I'll try and remember.
[01:15.13]KAEDEN: So, there are a few practical things you need to sort out this morning.
[01:20.26]Then I'll
show you what you're going to do today.
[01:22.99]CHARLOTTE: The email I received said to go to the front desk, to show my letter of
appointment and pick up my badge.
[01:30.85]KAEDEN: You’ll need that for the staffroom and other areas of the Supermarket where
shoppers aren't allowed.
[01:36.64]So, after you've finished at the front desk, I'll take you to the staffroom.
[01:42.00]Put your
coat and rucksack in one of the lockers there.
[01:45.06]Take whichever one is free.
[01:47.17]CHARLOTTE: Will I have a key?
[01:49.08]KAEDEN: Yes. Try not to lose it. At the end of the day, leave it in the door for the next
person to use.
[01:55.69]CHARLOTTE: Will do.
[01:56.85]KAEDEN: You also need to go to the HR department to see Tiffany.
[02:00.84]She's really helpful.
[02:02.43]CHARLOTTE: I was told to bring my passport with me.
[02:05.69]HR need to take a note of the number in it.
[02:08.75]KAEDEN: That's right. Or you can show your ID card.
[02:11.45]CHARLOTTE: I don't have one of those.
[02:13.33]KAEDEN: OK. Tiffany will give you a uniform.
[02:16.31]They have lots in different sizes, so you just
tell her what you need.
[02:20.62]I won't come with you to HR – I’ve got to go and sort
something else out.
[02:24.62]Problem with a bread slicer.
[02:27.20]CHARLOTTE: Is the HR office near the staffroom?
[02:30.49]KAEDEN: The staff room’s on the first floor, and HR are a couple of floors above that, on the
third floor.
[02:36.43]There's a staircase outside the staffroom.
[02:38.83]CHARLOTTE: OK.
[02:39.98]KAEDEN: When you've finished with HR, come and find me in the bakery section of the
shop.
[02:44.48]CHARLOTTE: I'm looking forward to getting started.
[02:47.06]KAEDEN: I'll just give you my phone number, in case you can't find me.
[02:50.84]Have you got your
phone there?
[02:52.83]CHARLOTTE: Yes ... OK, ready.
[02:56.82]KAEDEN: It's oh-four-one-two double-six-five nine-oh-three.
[03:04.03]CHARLOTTE: OK, done.
[03:42.82]KAEDEN: So, Charlotte, your tasks today are in the bakery section, on the sushi counter, and on the meat and fish counters.
[03:52.29]The first job is to check sell-by dates on the bread and cakes.
[03:56.77]If any of the dates are today's, put anew price label on the packaging.
[04:01.32]CHARLOTTE: What if any of the labels are yesterday's dates, or older?
[04:06.17]Do I throw those items away?
[04:08.57]KAEDEN: Yes, but that shouldn’t happen - we check the stock every day.
[04:12.34]When something
needs a new price label put a yellow one on the package, next to the original price.
[04:17.79]CHARLOTTE: OK.
[04:18.83]KAEDEN: After that, you'll go to the sushi takeaway counter.
[04:22.47]CHARLOTTE: Will I be preparing boxes of food?
[04:25.55]KAEDEN: For today, you'll just be helping the staff.
[04:28.45]CHARLOTTE: Yes, of course.
[04:29.83]KAEDEN: You’ll see lots of flat cardboard boxes at one end of the counter.
[04:33.87]Beneath those
is where we keep the plastic boxes - we run out of those really quickly, so you should bring more from the storeroom.
[04:41.58]CHARLOTTE: Is that my only task on the sushi counter?
[04:45.02]KAEDEN: No. You also need to clean the area where they prepare the dishes.
[04:48.93]There are cloths and bottles of spray by the sink.
[04:51.83]Oh, and please make sure you clean that too.
[04:54.52]CHARLOTTE: Sure. That's important, isn't it?
[04:57.19]KAEDEN: Absolutely. But you mustn't wash up knives.
[05:00.20]You have to do some training before you're allowed to touch sharp objects.
[05:04.01]CHARLOTTE: What should I do if there are any?
[05:06.45]KAEDEN: Ask someone to put them in the dishwasher.
[05:08.61]CHARLOTTE: OK, thanks. I don't want to get anything wrong.
[05:12.10]KAEDEN: Don't worry. You'll be fine.
[05:13.76]And I be around to help.
[05:15.17]CHARLOTTE: Right.
[05:16.03]KAEDEN: Finally, the meat and fish counters.
[05:18.92]You need to clean the area where staff serve customers, including wiping the weighing scales.
[05:24.64]CHARLOTTE: OK. Anything else?
[05:27.58]KAEDEN: The fish is laid on ice but when that starts to melt, you'll need to get more from the cold-room.
[05:33.89]CHARLOTTE: I know the staff on the food counters wear a hat.
[05:37.85]Will that be the same for me?
[05:39.96]KAEDEN: You won't be serving customers directly, so no.
[05:43.10]But make sure you put on
thermal gloves when you take anything out of the cold-room.
[05:47.57]The temperature's low enough in there to get frostbite from touching things.
[05:51.18]CHARLOTTE: Understood.
