[02:23.16]LISA:Hi TONY, thanks ever so much for coming.
[02:26.80]You know we've been asked to organize something for Johns farewell?
[02:29.87]TONY:Yeah, sure, it's about time we started working out details.
[02:33.62]LISA:Exactly.We don't want to leave it so late that it's double the work.
[02:37.97]TONY:Mmm, mm.right, do you want me to take notes?
[02:41.90]LISA:That'd be great, thanks.
[02:43.45]TONY:Right, first thing is, when is the best time to hold it?
[02:47.58]LISA:Well, he leaves on the twenty-fourth of December.
[02:51.89]TONY:So what about the twenty-second?
[02:53.79]LISA:Yeah.I think that's about right.
[02:56.64]We want it quite near the time, don't we?
[02:58.92]TONY:Sure, and what about a venue?
[03:01.66]In college?A hotel?
[03:03.67]LISA:I think a hotel will probably work out rather expensive, and I've been looking at the College Dining Room; that seems pretty reasonable.
[03:12.73]TONY:Fine, yeah, why not?
[03:15.18]LISA:And then we ought to be thinking about invitations ... Who mustn't we forget to invite?
[03:22.70]TONY:Well, obviously John and his wife.
[03:24.56]LISA:Right.
[03:25.51]TONY:And the Director.
[03:26.36]LISA:Ah ha.
[03:27.40]TONY:The office Staff.
[03:28.23]LISA:Yep, and all the teachers and all the students.
[03:32.31]TONY:Anyone else?
[03:33.41]LISA:Faculty Heads?
[03:36.36]TONY:No.better draw the line.
[03:37.95]I don't think it's necessary.
[03:39.40]LISA:Yeah, you're right.
[03:40.67]TONY:I don't mind writing the invitations.
[03:42.51]When shall we get them out for?
[03:44.60]LISA:Enough time but not too early.
[03:46.60]What about the fifteenth of December?
[03:49.48]TONY:Well, there are exams on the sixteenth - better avoid them.
[03:54.48]LISA:Tenth?
[03:56.45]TONY:Yeah, that should do it.
[04:33.30]LISA:So what does that leave?
[04:35.57]Oh yes, a present
[04:37.85]TONY:Would you mind doing that?
[04:39.40]LISA:No.not at all; we usually go round with an envelope during coffee break, don't we?
[04:44.49]TONY:Yeah, coffee breaks always the best time, 'cos people have got their money handy.
[04:49.49]LISA:Yeah, exactly.
[04:51.59]Do we suggest an amount?
[04:53.80]Or does it seem a bit unfair?
[04:57.21]TONY:No.I think people welcome it.
[04:58.86]We suggested six dollars last time, is that OK?
[05:02.56]LISA:Yeah, plenty I would have thought, which should leave us with about ninety dollars.
[05:08.96]TONY:Have you any ideas for presents?
[05:10.70]LISA:Well, I've been having a little think.
[05:14.60]I thought, you know, he loves music.
[05:18.71]TONY:Yeah, and books.
[05:20.47]LISA:So, I thought I’d check on prices for, well, perhaps CD players.
[05:28.50]TONY:Yeah, that's a, that's a good idea, and also I thought maybe, you know, a set of dictionaries.
[05:34.62]I heard him say he needed a good one.
[05:36.66]LISA:The other thing he was saying last week was that his computer printer had broken.
[05:40.77]TONY:Umm.No.I'd be really frightened about getting the wrong type.
[05:45.50]LISA:OK, yeah.
[05:46.79]TONY:The other thing is something for the home - Jill suggested a coffee maker.
[05:51.58]LISA:Oh yeah.I'll certainly find out what they cost.
[05:56.11]OK, have you got all that down?
[06:00.91]TONY:Yes.
[06:02.45]LISA:Now we need to think a little more about the money.
[06:06.84]I know we've got a set amount from the Social Fund.
[06:10.28]TONY:Right, what does that cover?
[06:12.47]LISA:It's meant to cover the cost of the room.
[06:14.96]TONY:Yeah.
[06:16.10]LISA:And a certain amount for food.
[06:19.12]TONY:And also drinks?
[06:21.11]LISA:Oh yeah, certainly.
[06:22.96]TONY:But will it be enough?
[06:25.20]LISA:What we've done in the past is to ask guests to bring some snacks
[06:30.17]TONY:Right.
[06:31.51]LISA:We don't ask them to bring more drinks because we figure that's ... that should come from the Social Fund.
[06:38.34]TONY:OK.Anything else for the guests to bring?
[06:41.81]LISA:Well, some music, because there'll be a tape deck there in the room, and we can have some dancing later on.
[06:49.42]TONY:Anything else?
[06:50.69]LISA:Well, it's just a thought, but a couple of years ago we had a really good party where we set up, you know, some simple games.
[06:59.95]TONY:Yeah, great. Wasn't it based on photos, from the students and teachers?
[07:04.52]LISA:That's right.
[07:05.96]TONY:So we should ask the guests to bring photos.
[07:08.92]OK.I'll put it on the invitations.
[07:11.37]LISA:Now the last thing is, who shall we ask to do the speech?
[07:16.33]TONY:Don't you think it might be nice to have one of the students?
[07:19.96]LISA:Well then, the Student Leader?
[07:23.44]TONY:Yeah, much better than the Director giving speeches again.
[07:26.84]LISA:OK then, I'll ask her.
[07:30.58]Lovely!So, is that all?
[07:33.96]TONY:Looks like it.
[07:35.87]LISA:Great.Thanks ever so much... (fade out)
