[00:47.62]Counselor:That’s a possibility. [00:49.39]Now, a childcare job may pay even less than a restaurant but, it’d certainly be good experience. [00:57.26]Especially if you’re going into early childhood education. [01:01.06]Are you?

[01:09.24]Counselor:Well, working at a childcare centre may help you decide. [01:13.80]Now, a childcare job could interfere with your schedule if most of your classes during the day. [01:20.62]Are you willing to take evening classes if you need to?
[01:24.31]Sarah:Well, I’d have to guess. [01:26.81]That’s what’s been great about the restaurant. [01:29.35]I mostly work evening hours.
[01:31.90]Counselor:Right, now there is a childcare centre right here at the University.
[01:37.13]Sarah:OH! Where is it?
[01:39.14]Counselor:Building right behind the main library. [01:42.55]It’s a great facility. [01:44.39]It’s for students, faculty, and staff who have young children. [01:48.80]They prefer to hire students who are majoring in early childhood education. [01:54.26]It has morning and afternoon shifts, and they try to accommodate school schedule. [02:00.60]Although the more flexible your schedule, the more likely you’ll get hired. [02:05.77]So you may need to take an evening class or two.
[02:09.33]Sarah:Sounds good! [02:10.92]Do you know if they have any openings?
[02:13.68]Counselor:They’re closed now. [02:15.07]But, I can get the most up to date information from the director later. [02:19.82]I know him well. [02:21.17]So why don’t you fill out a general application? [02:25.01]You can do it when we finish talking, and leave it with me.

[02:31.30]Counselor:And also, you should consider filling out the questionnaire on our website. [02:36.63]It’ll give you a better sense of your overall skills and interests, and maybe even help you identify other kinds of jobs you could consider!

[02:51.70]Counselor:Oh you know, it asks questions like, do - do you prefer to work indoors or outdoors? [02:58.94]Things like that. [03:00.38]For some questions, you really have to think about what you’re good at, and others about what you enjoy.

[03:09.79]Counselor:It is. [03:11.04]Also, our job database has lots of listings of both on and off campus employment. [03:19.15]It’d be a good idea for you to look through these, see if any of them might interest you. [03:25.20]Once you’ve done that, make a follow-up appointment, and we’ll put it all together. [03:31.25]By then I’ll know about openings at the campus childcare centre.
